What shall I give you?
What shall I give you, my dearest love?
The hills , the stars, the heavens above ?
- I have no power to give the earth or skies.
You have my body, blood and hot heart’s core,
Take all, before we die, and are no more:
Take all my hopes, my promises, my vanity’s lies -
Translate them fondly to your passion’s lust
Until - like all else - they too do dry to dust.
So what can I give you, apart from sighs,
What gift to last all days, all months, the future years
When death has won, and all that’s left are tears?
On paper, blotted, folded, I offer you this -
Inked with love timeless, sealed with tend’rest kiss, -
A loveheart poem woven from my simple soul,
Penned by hand, and love through words made whole.
